Activities Of Daily Living Scale Of The Knee Outcome Survey

Activities of Daily Living Scale of the Knee Outcome Survey

Indications: For assessment of the full spectrum of symptoms and functional limitation that may occur as a result of a wide variety of pathological disorders and impairments of the knee.

Items: 17

Scoring: Each Item scored 0-5 (5 representing no disability). The response scores are added up, divided by 80 and multiplied by 100 to give final score (expressed as a percentage).

Score Range: 0 to 100 % (Higher percentage represents less disability).

Internal Consistency: coefficient alpha correlation coefficient=.92, .93, .93, .93(at baseline, week 1, week 4, and week 8 respectively). SEM=5.9, 5.3, 4.8, 4.6 (at baseline, week 1, week 4, and week 8 respectively).

Validity: Pearson correlation coefficient=0.75, 0.68, 0.69, 0.66 (at baseline, week 1, week 4, and week 8 respectively) with Global Rating Scale. PCC=0.78, 0.81, 0.84, 0.86 (at baseline, week 1, week 4, and week 8 respectively) with Lysholm Knee Scales.

Responsiveness: One-way repeated measures analysis of variance revealed significant improvement (F2,236=108.13, p<0.0001); post hoc testing with the Scheffe procedure indicated that the mean change in the score at eight weeks was significantly greater than that at four weeks and that the mean change in the score at four weeks was significantly greater than that at on week (p<0.0001 for both). The effect size for the change in the score on the ADL Scale was 0.44, 0.94, and 1.26 at one, four, and eight weeks, respectively. The analysis of variance indicated that the patients who said that the knee was somewhat improved had a significantly smaller change in the score compared with those who said that it was greatly improved, both at four weeks (F1,189=33.50, p<0.001) and eight weeks (F1,156=22.48, p<0.001).

Test-Retest Reliability: Same day, before and after single treatment. ICC(2,1)=0.97. SEM=3.2.

Calculated MDC(95%CI)=7 (not part of study).
